Translations from and into English in the United States

American English has many instances in which its intonation and pronunciation differs greatly from British English and even Canadian English. Many American words and phrases are either unknown or used differently in other English-speaking countries.

One language - many dialects

After Christopher Columbus discovered the continent, it was a while later before the first major wave of settlers arrived to populate the "New World." Over the centuries, more and more Europeans left their homelands to try their luck in this newly discovered, still hardly explored continent. Most of these new settlers came from England, Scotland, and Ireland, so it wasn’t long before English became the common language for communication in the New World.

Because English is easy to learn and its grammar is understandable, even immigrants from other European countries such as Germany, Italy, and France soon began to speak English. This mixture of various European languages eventually led to the creation of American English, which differs strongly from British, Scottish, and Irish English.
