French and Chinese are two languages that would appear at first glance to have nothing in common. Aside from a few borrowed words, even the grammar and vocabulary are hardly similar. While French features a highly structured grammar, Chinese is grammatically very loose. Time is also classified differently. French uses various time expressions and tenses, while Chinese has fundamentally just the basic tenses as well as terms and structures that provide a better understanding. Standard expressions govern much of the Chinese language. The two tongues have in common only the importance given to the tone of the spoken word. French is often considered to be the most tonal of the European languages. Chinese distinguishes four tones, two of which have counterparts in French. The economic significance of both countries makes translations into traditional Chinese increasingly important. We are happy to support you with professional French-to-Chinese translations. There are two forms of written Chinese language, simplified and traditional. The simplified characters, created for easier understanding, require fewer strokes than the earlier form. Some of the strokes from the traditional characters were eliminated by abbreviating the characters’ radicals. This allows modern readers to find indications of the original characters. It is also possible to convert the traditional characters found in all older documents and religious texts into modern simplified characters. This is especially helpful in translations into other languages since every translation has to be culturally and historically appropriate.
Translation involves much more than finding the correct word equivalents in another language. To produce a good translation, one needs a deeper understanding of the meaning of the text. Additionally, the translator must be very familiar with the language and culture. A very good translation requires excellent knowledge of both the source and target languages.
