Brazil’s strong economic growth makes it a tempting prospect for many foreign businesses to enter this flourishing market. This includes a good many British companies. Naturally, Brazilian business customs are considerably different to British ones. It is therefore sensible to inform yourself in advance of common customs and habits. Getting to know each other
In the Brazilian business world, it is common to build a personal relationship with a potential business partner before embarking on any business deals. This means that there will usually be many meetings before you get down to business. A first meeting will therefore primarily be for the purpose of getting to know each other better. Family, friends, sports, children: all of these subjects could come up in conversation. Getting down to business straight away could be interpreted as rude by a Brazilian.
It is also important to remember that Brazilians tend to like having a single point of contact. As a result, suddenly changing a point of contact is not recommended.

Flexibility
People who do business in Brazil need to be prepared to be very flexible. Anything could turn out differently than has been planned. Meetings veer off in another direction, rules suddenly change, or the person you are meeting turns up late. This also has its positive side: meetings can easily be changed at the last minute if need be.
Language
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. However, this Portuguese differs greatly from the Portuguese spoken in Portugal. These differences are so great that Brazilians and Portuguese people sometimes have difficulty understanding each other. It is therefore also important to make a distinction between Portuguese from Portugal and Brazilian Portuguese.
